Has anyone had any further thoughts on the matter? Unfortunately the forum hasn't gotten any more active in recent weeks. I'm struggling to see how its viable to keep it going. I partially blame myself for that despite saying I would make an effort to post more things here. I've just generally been really busy these last few months, which has actually made me appreciate the Discord approach a little more.
Likewise, I don't really want to go down the route for asking for donations, especially since there is such little discussion but if people want to keep this around then we can make something work. If there is interest in that, post here or PM me. The costs are not exactly high, something like $10/mo which really isn't much at all. It is not something that I personally am averse to spending (it is basically the cost of a couple of coffees!) but even spending those few dollars a month seems like an absolute waste given how little ongoing discussion there is, hence the reason for bringing this up at all.
Alternatively, does anyone has any suggestions regarding a replacement ad-supported forum service?
Perhaps, before any decisions are made, we could experiment with adding some extra channels to Discord? It seems the concern with Discord is different discussions taking place and not being able to follow a particular one.
I know the intention was never to have Discord replace the forum, but regardless - that is what has happened. I'm part of a few groups now, each with a multitude of channels and it works perfectly fine. Nothing gets lost, and discussions can be neatly separated out. Just very general stuff like Games, Screenshots, Movies, Misc. That could maybe help alleviate concerns sticking with Discord-only going forward.
