You should cancel. People in the UK who ordered the Vive last week are already receiving theirs.
He is not even overreacting. I feel the same way. They are creating a closed ecosystem within the most (and only) open platform we have. I just hate the idea of what this might become.
Just to clarify, you don't have to use Oculus Home. SteamVR supports Oculus, so you can buy Rift games on Steam. However, you won't be able to buy the Rift-exclusive games that are only on Oculus Home. Ironically, given their hardware DRM it would be plain stupid for anyone to buy a game on Oculus Home if it is also on Steam as you will never be able to change hardware down the line.
That is a fundamental difference between the two approaches - Steam will support any hardware (Vive, Rift and so on) and have already confirmed that Oculus Touch will be supported. Meanwhile Oculus will only support their own products, despite saying otherwise mere months ago. I cannot abide by that.
